First Saturday Open House | Heritage Garden Giveaway
At this open house, The Couse Foundation highlights the "Mother Garden" of Taos. Volunteers collect seeds and cuttings during the year and share them with community members and visitors on the first Saturday every October. The seed and cuttings giveaway continues a tradition in remembrance of Virginia Walker Couse's original generosity, which helped establish many Taos gardens.
Tour the historic studios of E. I. Couse and J. H. Sharp, two of the founders of the Taos Society of Artists. Docents will be present in every room providing in-depth knowledge of the E. I. Couse House and Studio, Virginia Couse Heritage Garden, Kibbey Couse lab and machine shop, and the 1915 Sharp Studio with the exhibition J. H. Sharp: The Life and Work of an American Legend. This will be the last month for the exhibitions Taos Pueblo Portraiture: The Photographic Studies of E. I. Couse in the 1830s Luna Chapel and Joseph Henry Sharp’s Montana in the 1915 Studio, which close Nov. 2.
Open to the public, free admission; donations encouraged. Relevant books, DVDs, and other items for sale.
