Leah is sixteen years old and will be a senior at Taos High School, but often forgets this. She thoroughly enjoys pigtail braids and juice pouches, and loves writing because it has brought out the angsty teenager insider her since age seven. She has been the SOMOS Young Writers program intern for 2017-18, recruiting students & mentors, reading at the YW's night at the Harwood and during April Poetry Month. On Sunday, January 15, 2017, writers and poets across the United States and in Europe came together for Writers Resist, a “re-inauguration” of our shared commitment to the spirit of compassion, equality, free speech, and the fundamental ideals of democracy. Writers Resist events, large and small, were held in dozens of locations throughout the US and the world. Inspired by long-time SOMOS member, past president, and activist poet Phyllis Hotch, SOMOS will sponsor a WRITERS AND POETS RESIST event on the fourth Sunday of each month from 4 - 6 pm at the SOMOS Salon. Taos writers and poets are invited to read from their own work and/or selections from other authors/poets joining the many diverse writers' voices throughout history that speak to the ideals of Democracy. If you would like to read for the event, please contact Bob Silver at rsilver65@gmail.com or call SOMOS at 575-758-0081. Length of readings is dependent upon number of participants and allotted time. Musicians and song writers welcome as well! #WRITERSRESIST
