Town of Taos Hosts Groundbreaking Ceremony for Chamisa Verde Affordable Housing Project
Creating a Pathway for Home Ownership
Taos, NM — The Town of Taos is proud to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for Chamisa Verde Phase 1, a major milestone in the Town's Affordable Housing Initiative. The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Chamisa Verde Subdivision project site by the intersection of E. Sunset Street and Paseo del Cañon East in Taos.
Chamisa Verde Phase 1 represents a bold step forward in addressing Taos' long standing affordable housing needs. With housing costs steadily outpacing local incomes, the Town has prioritized creating attainable homeownership opportunities for residents. This project is one of several efforts aimed at ensuring Taoseños can continue to live, work, and thrive in their own community.
"This is a very exciting milestone in the development of housing in Taos and is the culmination of three years of diligent work by the Town of Taos to secure funding, building partnerships, and create a new model for housing in New Mexico," said Town of Taos Mayor Pascualito Maestas. "The pathway to homeownership created by this project is unprecedented and offers the state a new way to look at housing development."
The project will feature seven sustainably built homes, constructed by local contractor Pangea Designs, a leader in innovative and environmentally conscious building practices. Using cutting-edge 3D printing technology, Pangea Designs will produce three (3) two-bedroom homes and four (4) three-bedroom homes, each designed with affordability, energy efficiency, and long-term sustainability at the forefront.
The Town of Taos invites community members, stakeholders, and the media to join us in celebrating this important achievement for the future of housing in Taos. Remarks will be made by Town leadership, Pangea Designs representatives, and other community partners.
