Local, national and international artists convened in Taos to participate in The PASEO 2018 festival on September 14 and 15, 2018. The theme for 2018 was “Space.” A series of immersive and participatory art installations harnessed art, science and technology as tools for the contemplation of space, offering a view of society in sync with nature and the universe. Artistic Director Agnes Chavez promised, “Festival participants’ senses will be activated, curiosities stimulated, and minds transported to a wondrous universe in flux. We are thrilled to once again activate the streets of Taos with our 5th annual PASEO festival that engages our community and visitors in a participatory and multisensory experience.”
The nexus for The PASEO 2018 was the Space Cloud, an inflated pavilion designed by a Spanish architectural team that served as a gigantic illuminated nerve center for the weekend events. Within the Space Cloud a sci-artist projected an enlarged animated plankton while a New Mexico-based artist asked the Taos community to come together to explore its world from outer space. Another dozen artists and art collectives were introduced to add thought-provoking and playful art for public sharing.
