To celebrate National Bike Month we are hosting the first annual “Taos Bike Rodeo” in our community. This community-wide event is for children and adults of all ages and biking abilities. This FREE event will take place on Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Taos Eco Park. The goal is to provide our community with a fun, safe, and supervised bike rodeo for building youth and adult awareness of promoting cycling for fun, transportation, safe biking practices, skills and fitness. Statistics reveal that many young people are involved in bicycle-related crashes. We need to find ways to ensure that our participants are better informed about road safety. We hope to be able to successfully convey this type of message to the participants during this Taos Bike Rodeo. Riding safely is fun. This event will expose the participants to the skills they need to be safe cyclists. All participants are required to have a completed registration/waiver form prior to participate. All youth must be registered and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents please bring your child’s bike and helmet. Local bike shops, Gearing Up Bicycle Shop and Taos Cyclery, will be on hand to inspect bikes for safety and helmet inspection for proper fit. Free helmets will be provided for children needing a helmet while supplies and sizes last. Helmets are required for all riders. There will be skilled building activities, cycling games and Rules of the Road lessons provided by Field Institute of Taos coaches and instructors. A limited number of loaner bikes will be available. (120) gift bags will be given to the youth completing the activities and visiting the booths and games. Reading of Bike Month Proclamation by Mayor Dan Barrone. Lunch will be provided. A highlight of the bike rodeo is free drawings for twenty-three (23) bicycles in different sizes for participating participants. Booths promoting a healthy community are provided by Del Norte Mountain Mtb. Alliance, Family Care Center Pediatric and Adult Care, Herbalife Nutrition, Taos County EMS, Taos Police Department, Taos Police Bike Team, Taos Physical Therapy, Taos Volunteer Fire Department, and Taos Youth & Family Center.
