Why You Should be a Member
Some business owners might say their schedule is demanding enough at the moment, and the thought of adding one more activity to their busy calendar is unbearable.  So why should they try to cram time into their already hectic schedules to join and actively participate in their local chamber of commerce?
Because membership in the Taos County Chamber of Commerce offers numerous benefits and keeps business owners on top of important, ever-changing issues and trends within our community and local marketplace.  We provide priority referrals to your business when answering thousands of inquiries from locals, visitors and those who want to move here that come to us by telephone, website, Facebook and email each year.

Research points out that consumers are more likely to do business with a company if it’s a member of their local chamber of commerce.  According a research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street Services, when consumers know that a small business is a member of their local chamber of commerce, they are 44 percent more likely to think favorably of it and 63 percent more likely to purchase goods or services from the company in the future.  We often confirm chamber membership to callers whose response is usually, “Good, I like doing business with Chamber Members where ever I go”.

For businesses who are developing their business and marketing strategy we are a low-cost solution for building an online presence that will return search results with your business name, location, contact information, products, services and key words.  Membership also includes your business in a Members by Category listing four times per year in premium Taos News publications; Discover Taos and Enchanted Homes.  Additionally, we promote member news, grand openings and ribbon cutting ceremonies on social media and through emails that go to over 1000 addresses in Taos and surrounding areas.

The Taos County Chamber of Commerce networking events are well attended and give you an opportunity to speak with others in businesses you may need or you may serve.  We produce a variety of seminars and trainings that are usually free for members to attend.

Member input is the most valuable tool we have in developing events and opportunities to promote your business.  By actively engaging with your Chamber community you expand the reach of your business and help develop the business community for others.

Our committees provide opportunities to have your voice heard and acted upon.  The Government Affairs Committee includes representatives from town and county governments, anchor institutions like Kit Carson Electrical Cooperative, Holy Cross Medical Center, UNM-Taos and concentrates on influencing policies that make doing business in Taos better.  This committee meets the first Monday of each month at 1 pm in the Taos Visitor Center Conference Room.

The Membership Committee concentrates on the member experience from first contact with the Chamber to enhancing member benefits for all.  This committee meets in the morning on the first Wednesday of each month, typically at El Monte Sagrado in the restaurant.

The Education Committee supports a vibrant and sustainable business environment in Taos County by supporting local employers, educators and the workforce, through collaboration, advocacy, research and training to enhance the well-being of the entire community.  The Education Committee typically meets late Tuesday afternoon during the third week of the month at the Taos Visitor Center Conference Room.
All of the committees are open meetings and our members are encouraged to participate in one or more of these committees.  Please contact us for more information about our committees and to confirm exact times and locations.   Chambers plan events so that its members benefit.  Only by participation, can a member get maximum benefit.
