The What, How & Why of Stories
A SIX-WEEK WORKSHOP ON WEDNESDAYS, 4/17 – 5/22
In writing there are essentially three focuses: What our story is – that’s the theme. How we tell our story – that’s the art of shaping. Structuring how your story is written is essential, but it is the third focus – the Why we tell our story that’s the way we engage our readers from beginning to end. “The urgency that compels the writer – the truth we need to speak, the warning we need to impart, the redemption we need to share, the beauty we see in the world, the thrill of being alive, the promise that our lives have meaning – must infuse the book.” (Rahna Reiki Rizzuto, 1/2019, keynote speech)
In this six-week workshop on Wednesday evenings beginning 4/17 – 5/22 from 5:30-8 PM we will explore all three focuses – with special attention to developing the Why – the urgency of our story, and why now? Each student (maximum of 8) will have a minimum of three opportunities to share their work and receive feedback from participants and the instructor; as well as receive handouts and craft talks.
